Where it sits
Rigi belongs to the Lucerne – Lake Lucerne region. The usual valley stations are Vitznau, Weggis and Küssnacht am Rigi. You look out over three lakes. The city of Lucerne is a hub on the water, not this mountain.
What you’ll see
The cogwheel railway runs from Vitznau to Rigi Kulm. A historic rack-and-pinion steam locomotive, Lok 7, is part of that line’s story. From Weggis a cable car climbs to Rigi Kaltbad. From Küssnacht the Seebodenalp terrace is the named panoramic stop.
Scheduled boats on Lake Lucerne sit with the Rigi trip: you can arrive at a lakeside valley station by water, then take the railway or cable car. The mineral baths at Rigi Kaltbad are a thermal pool with a view, not a walk on the ridge.
This is not the Pilatus Golden Round Trip. Pilatus stays on the Lucerne page.
A simple day
Reach Vitznau, Weggis or Küssnacht. Ride one cogwheel or cable car to a viewpoint. Come back the same way. If you want the city and Chapel Bridge, keep Lucerne for another day.
